Mega Lekker: My South African Adventure

Mega Lekker: My South African Adventure

A Warm Welcome in iSimangaliso

Our adventure began at Makakatana Bay Lodge, set within the breathtaking iSimangaliso Wetland Park. This family-run lodge instantly felt like home, with staff who went above and beyond to make our stay special. From sunrise and sunset game drives to a full-day beach trip across Lake St Lucia to the Indian Ocean, every moment was magic. The perfect introduction to South Africa.

A Relaxing Reset in Johannesburg

After returning to Johannesburg, we checked into African Rock Hotel & Spa—a peaceful boutique escape just minutes from the airport. Think quiet luxury, beautiful surroundings, and yes… an incredible massage I highly recommend. Ideal for a short stay to recharge.

Safari Dreams at Kapama

Kapama Private Game Reserve was a true highlight. Staying at Kapama River Lodge, we were spoiled with amazing food, stunning rooms, and fun, welcoming staff. The biggest thrill? Spotting the Big Five in just two days—an unforgettable safari experience.

Into the Wild: Kruger National Park

Next stop: the iconic Kruger National Park. At Leopard Sands, we were welcomed with traditional dancers before heading out on game drives where we spotted wild dogs and hyenas—new additions to our growing wildlife list.

We then moved to Lion Sands Tinga Lodge in southern Kruger, a private concession offering a more exclusive safari experience. Picture sundowners by the river, incredible food, and even a rhino nearby—pure magic.

Luxury Living in Johannesburg

Back in the city, Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa was nothing short of spectacular. Elegant, unique, and seriously luxurious—especially our stay in the Villa Moji. A hosted dinner in the private dining room was the cherry on top of an already unforgettable stay.

Sun City & A Grand Finale

We wrapped up our trip at Sun City, staying at the iconic Palace of the Lost City. This place is on another level—grand, extravagant, and full of energy. Between conference events, supplier meetups, and a fun beach party, it was the perfect mix of work and play.

Our final safari in Pilanesberg National Park didn’t disappoint either, with sightings of lions, giraffes, rhinos, hippos, and even a leopard—an incredible way to end the trip.

Final Thoughts

This journey was truly something special. From luxury lodges to wild safari’s and unforgettable experiences, South Africa has it all. Huge shoutout to The Africa Safari Co for putting together such an incredible itinerary.

If South Africa isn’t on your travel list yet—it absolutely should be.
